MMWD
MMWD

The Marin Municipal Water District’s water testing laboratory was designed by Keith Plymale and Michael Tauber of Michael Willis Architects. As project architects for Willis, Tauber & Plymale worked with MMWD staff to build a laboratory featuring cutting edge scientific technology and specialty water testing equipment in the work stations. The ‘Lab’ is an ‘essential service facility’, designed to withstand and operate through major earthquakes. Interior spaces are connected to the Marin County landscape and Mount Tamalpais through glass walls and specific view framing windows.

Washington Street San Francisco

Capturing natural light and specific views of the city, landscape and sky are specialties of Volume 21: Office For Architecture. Washington Street is one of many buildings visually connected to its surroundings by capturing light and precisely framing local and distant views. Natural light is an essential element in creating an inspired built environment within which to live. The character of interior space takes all potential views and material textures into account.

Built-In Furniture: Architecture for the Body
Built-In Furniture: Architecture for the Body

Custom designed ‘built-ins’ are a frequently deployed aspect in our projects. To counter the generic storage elements hidden in houses today, we design custom cabinetry and functional furniture elements as an integral part of our architecture. Detailed, eye catching and practical, our ‘built-ins’ maximize function in small spaces while adding visual appeal to a room. An array of materials and textures are utilized to develop and build each design.

The Miller House has been featured in several publications for its award winning design and impact on the design industry. Oubrerie and Plymale received AIA honor awards for the project.

SFO
SFO

When San Francisco International Airport needed permanent ‘Hi-Tech’ information panels, they turned to Michael Willis Architects who put Keith Plymale in charge of the design. The digitally driven information panels are permanent feature in the SFO arrivals & ground transportation area. The boards are designed for visual simplicity, information retrieval, blue tooth connections and provide critical information to flight weary travelers.

T House Louisville
T House Louisville

Clean lines, and an open floor plan, were important to client Barry Thomas. He wanted to build new a piece of modern architecture on a heavily wooded bluff above Louisville’s SDF International Airport.  The house was built to work with a flexible interior and external form that remains close to the ground of the site to maintain views across the valley for the neighbors. The T House is contemporary in spirit and provides an added value to the neighborhood by utilizing the hillside site in unexpected and beautiful ways.
